We are delighted to announce the Institute of Communications UK Chapter will hold a meeting titled Cloud Sovereignty at a Crossroads: UK Choices in a Geopolitical Cloud Market on Tuesday 28 April from 17:00-19:00 BST.
The meeting will address the question: What should cloud sovereignty look like in the UK?
- Cloud and digital sovereignty are rising on the policy agenda as governments seek to protect sensitive data, control critical infrastructure and reduce reliance on a small number of global technology providers.
- Debates around data localisation and extraterritorial laws such as the US CLOUD Act are converging with concerns about dependence on largely US-owned platforms, driving a renewed focus on cloud sovereignty in EU frameworks and the UK’s push for sovereign compute capacity. The EU is pursuing a more formal, sovereignty-led model, while the UK has taken a flexible, market-led approach shaped by the CMA’s cloud market investigation.
- This panel will assess what a credible UK approach looks like, the trade-offs involved, how far current solutions meet immediate needs, and what further action may be required.
