New Article by Preiskel on The Sling: Is Social Media Like Alcohol and Tobacco?

Following the decisions in KGM v Meta and New Mexico v Meta, we responded to David French’s free-speech defense of the social media platforms in the New York Times in an article published by The Sling.

We argue that platforms disregard their duty of care when they intentionally exploit users, especially children, with their addictive algorithm. A free-speech defense misses the point, and instead Big Tech abuse legal loopholes and procedural tactics to evade accountability, at the expense of children’s safety and democratic state action.
